7 for seven × 2

7forseven_key-and-arrowLet’s face it // Mondays stink. Or at least we typically expect them to stink. That is why, every Monday, we post seven positives from the previous seven days of the week as a reminder of what we have so that the week starts out on an upswing. There is much truth in the belief that happy people attract good things, so it is important to start the week out right. Sometimes it’s the more grand, but other times, it’s the simple things.

This Week’s Side-Note: If you haven’t already read my recent post about Georgia and I’s amicable split, you can read that here.  Despite maintaining our friendship, change is difficult, especially since our trio {including our sweet pup, Buddy} is now separated by states.  For the past week, I’ve inhabited a near-empty apartment, waiting for my dad to get to town with his truck to help me move the remains.  I’ve always been a person who believes happiness is a choice, not a circumstance {okay, maybe not always, but I do now}, and I will not fail this recent test.  That is why instead of a 7 for seven this week, I’m multiplying my week’s positives by two.  Especially during tough times, it helps to amp up all the wonderful things I have going on to keep my mind off of the tremendous sense of loss I feel.

1. Cousin Engaged. The same day Georgia and Buddy left to drive back to Dublin, Georgia, my sweet cousin got engaged to her best friend.  On a day that devastated and discouraged my ideals about romantic love, I was reminded that it often does work.  And it will work for me one day, too.  I am so happy for my cousin for finding such a good person to stand by her side for the rest of her life {and for her fiancé — he caught himself a diamond!}, and I can’t wait to celebrate with her!

2. The Bachelorette. Now that school is out, and my life lacks routine {something that I — a true Virgo — craves/needs}, I was happy to have at least one routine remain intact.  Mondays at 7 are reserved for time with girlfriends watching The Bachelor/Bachelorette.  Before I disappoint anyone, I must say it is an awful show, but it is awfully fun to watch with other witty women with a cocktail in hand.

3. Shopping for DC w/ Sis.  I’m leaving for DC in about a week where I will attend teacher conferences and visit with the Legislature.  My work is extremely casual, so I wanted to be sure I had more appropriate clothes for my trip.  My sis is the best co-shopper, to keep me focused on what works for my body and what goes well together.  Plus, I’m sure it’s fun to spend someone else’s money.  Ha!  I walked away with a couple of good blouses and a pencil skirt.

4. Buh-Bye Sugar Darlin’, Hello Silver Bullet.  Before you go thinking, “Oh my, she’s gone off the deep end after this break-up and is now spending money like crazy…”  Yes, I splurged a little this week for new clothes, but the computer was gained almost entirely through the money I made selling furniture on Craigslist that I no longer need when I move.  Sugar Darlin’ {yes, I named my computer}, had been dying a slow death for a couple of years.  I’ve had her for about seven or eight years, and it was time to say good-bye.  I opted out of another “soft” name, and decided to name her Silver Bullet as a plea to her to stay as speedy and slick as she is now for years… years to come.

5. “Break-Up-Hair.”  I know it’s cliché, and if you go only one 7 for seven back, you will see that I recently had my hair done.  However, the new hair stylist that I used did not know me well enough to qualm her fears when chopping away at my UBER thick head of hair.  Stylists are always afraid at first because they are not accustomed to seeing that much hair on the floor when taking out bulk, so they stop too soon.  In the Texas summer heat, I want it to feel light and airy, not thick and bulky. So I returned to my old hair dresser who knows just what to do {I had left her to save more money — proof that sometimes you get what you pay for!}, to chop more bulk out of it.  I am so glad I did because she found quite a few “shelves” {as she called the ledge-like layers} in my hair that needed a good fix.  While I was there, I went for a slight color change for summer — and for some added fun.  Cause you know what?  I deserve it!

6. French Food + World Cup.  My sister and I went to a lovely French restaurant in Austin and split a quiche and chocolate croissant while watching the Spain vs. Netherlands game.  Not a bad way to spend a Friday!  Those Spain soccer players send me…

7. Emerson Fry.  Despite going shopping on Tuesday with my sister for my upcoming DC trip, I was disappointed that I was unable to find a good work-dress.  I ended up finding one on-line at Emerson Fry, and it arrived on Saturday.  This packaging made me blush!  Okay, my photography does not do it justice.

8. Buddy Pictures. Georgia knows how much I miss my Buddy, so he is sending me occasional pics and videos.  I miss him so much it hurts, but knowing that I can still see him wagging that wild tail and playing like a mad man with his dad makes it hurt slightly less.  It’s a butt-shot, but hey, I’ll take it!

Parent E-mail:

My computer crashed today & I needed to use [my son's ] computer….
LOOK what he has as his WALLPAPER!!!
Awwwwww :*D
Thank You sooo much for all the hours & patience that parents & kids don’t see and uniting as a wonderful TEAM!!! You have obviously left an impression on this young man!!
Thank You for blessing our family.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️~

9. E-mail from Student’s Parent. {I took out the picture that was inserted above the parent’s note because some of the teachers in the e-mail may not want their picture floating around the Internet — it was a group “selfie” of all the 7th grade teachers that we took to mimic Ellen Degeneres’ infamous Oscar pic}  A parent sent this e-mail to me and her son’s other teachers this week.  This made me smile!

10. Romantic Movie.  For some reason, when I go through a break-up, I actually like watching more romantic movies.  The good kind — not the cheesy blockbuster kind.  I found this movie on Netflix, and it hit the spot!

11. Father’s Day.  Unfortunately, I was not with my dad today, but I will celebrate Father’s Day with him next weekend instead.  Today always reminds me of how lucky I am to have him in my life.  He is a wonderful father who has taught me to value some of the most important things in life: self-love and respect, compassion, selflessness, and laughing through pain.  One of the things I always think about when I think about my father is his ability to make me laugh even when I am seemingly determined not to.  That was always his weapon-of-choice when I was acting like smart-aleck.  Instead of shaming me, he had a way of making me look inward without having to point out my faults.  He made me laugh at myself and look at the bigger picture all-the-while without dismissing the issue.  As an adult, he still does that.  Thank you, dad.

12. When Life Gives You Lemons… Turn your empty, echoey living room into a dance floor.  My living room may look like a cave, but when I turn on the music, it lights up a little.  I grew up dancing since I was three, and it has always been a source of happiness for me.  No one is around to see me tour jete, and THANK GOD.  It doesn’t come as easy as it used to, that’s for sure!  But that doesn’t mean it’s less fun.  It feels good to wake up those endorphins, sweat, and let music {which, for some reason, no matter what song it is, can painful those first few days} move me.

13. Hump-Day Patio Time.  On Wednesday, my sweet friend knew I would love to get out of my house, so she swept me up and took me out for a much-needed girls’ night on a patio.  Nothing cures the blues like sushi + wine + chocolate + girl-talk.  I think we had a ten minute conversation about The Real Housewives of Whatever.  Whoops.

14. Support from Friends, Family, and Readers.  When I wrote about my break up, it was the first time for much of my family and friends to even know what was going on.  It feels good to finally talk and get the support we all need when going through something tough.  My sister gave me a lil’ care-package {above} to help ease the stress that comes with this big change, and the kind gesture eased the stress more than the product ever could.  Additionally, it feels so good every time I get a text message, phone call, or comment from one of my readers checking in on me.  The support you have given us, readers, means more than you may know.  We are connected in so many ways, and it helps to be reminded of this.  Thank you for being there and for your kind words during this difficult time.  YOU are amazing.

We hope to inspire you to reflect on all you have to be grateful & that your week brings you even more positivity + balance + bliss!  Feel free to share your seven with us as well / or even just a couple!

Have a wonderful week!

xo,

Georgia + Darlin’
